This home reflects our clients love of the beach-life equally as much as their love of cooking and entertaining for friends and family by providing an adaptable space that is both functional and incredibly inviting. They wanted their home to express a sense of summery calm and light filled ease that embraces the outdoor lifestyle. Our client purchased the end unit of a 1960’s block of four flats in a leafy street just two minutes walk from Kohimarama beach. It was a two level 4 bedroom home that allowed little light from the south and west and looked over a neglected back garden. The interior of the home was dark and spaces were closed off from one another. We were tasked with creating a reconfiguration of the spaces to include entertaining on both levels, three bedrooms, a study with a cohesive interior feeling throughout.

We designed the outdoor spaces to connect the two levels with a sculptural white steel staircase. Upstairs the west facing living room and kitchen now open up to the outdoor space.  Downstairs, service spaces like the family bathroom and the laundry were cleverly concealed behind a wall of beautiful white washed cedar panelling creating a soft backdrop for the downstairs living. This room flows onto the outdoor garden with built in fireplace and BBQ area.  The spaces are light filled and comfortable with a muted palette of greens and terracottas together with the same white washed cedar panelling weaved through the interiors. These same finishes also utilised in the Master Bedroom together with natural linen curtains and a long cedar bedhead create a tranquil space.
