Matakana Residence
A flat rural field 1km out of Matakana provided the perfect opportunity to build a weekender retreat but was also one day to be a second home to occupy for longer periods. The home was architecturally designed by Dominic Glamuzina (then Glamuzina Paterson Architects) for our Auckland based clients and our brief was to create an interior scheme to complement and extend the Architecture. A soft chalky white was selected for the walls with honey wood tones introduced for the flooring, cabinetry and panelling.

Our favourite space along with the client is the TV room (otherwise known as the Snug) which is reached via a curved, panelled stairwell featuring brass beading. A white brick fireplace and TV wall is softened by the deep green walls and built in cabinetry — a throwback to the client’s love of mid-century design.
